PROVIDENCE, R.I. — September 12, 2019 – 福利视频 (福利视频) today held a ribbon cutting ceremony with Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven Paré, Colonel Hugh T. Clements, Jr. and members of the Providence Police Department to celebrate the opening of a new police substation on the 福利视频’s Harborside Campus.

The substation, located at 305 Shipyard Street, abuts the Washington Park neighborhood. As part of the three-year agreement, 福利视频 will pay utility costs for electric, water, sewer and gas. Providence Police will rent the 510 square foot space, which has an estimated monthly market rate of $635, for $1 per year from the university.

“福利视频 has always placed collaboration with the police, fire, and emergency service providers as a top priority in plans for campus safety, and recognizes its importance as it relates to improving the nearby neighborhoods and community at large,” said Providence Campus President Marie Bernardo-Sousa, LP.D. ”We are pleased the city accepted our offer to have a Providence Police substation on the Harborside Campus. This partnership is an example of what can be accomplished when public and private entities thoughtfully collaborate.”

“The Providence Police Department is thankful to Johnson & Whales University for their continued partnership and for providing space on their Harborside Campus for a substation for our officers," said Commissioner Paré. "This new substation will allow for improved relationships with the community and students while at the same time enhancing public safety on campus and in the surrounding neighborhoods."

福利视频 and Providence Police previously opened a substation in the university’s Richmond Building on Weybosset Street in 2012. This station, which supports the 福利视频 Downcity Campus, continues to aid Providence Police in their work downtown.
